The Child Development Ministry (CDM) is a vibrant, busy ministry of First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach serving children and families in our community. Licensed for 208 children (DSS License # 17928) and employing a staff of around 30, CDM has been committed to providing a high quality learning environment for all children for 40 years.
We work hard to care and educate children 6 weeks to age 5, and to provide after-school care for children ages 5 to 13. CDM follows WestEd’s Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) for children up to age 2 and age-appropriate, research-based curriculum standards for ages 3 to 5. For details about our curriculum standards for each age group, please click on the links under the curriculum tab.
All of CDM’s lead teachers hold credentials or degrees in Early Childhood Education. Teachers also participate in 20 hours of continuing education each year to ensure we use the latest best practices for young children’s learning.
As a result of CDM’s quality program and education practices, we have strong ties to the early childhood community at the local, county, and state levels. We partner with Horry-Georgetown Technical Education College and Coastal Carolina University as an observation/teaching site for early care and education students. Futher, we partner with S.C. agencies such as Advocates for Better Care (ABC) and S.C. First Steps to bring quality to the families we serve. All teachers are members of the South Carolina Early Childhood Association and Southern Early Childhood Association.
We are a resource for child/parenting matters to families, a partner to other early childhood teachers and child care providers in our area, and we collaborate with state agencies serving children, families, and early childhood teachers. CDM also provides early intervention services to children through Baby Net and Child Find.
